Introduction

"Behold I say to you, lift up your eyes and look at the fields, for they are already right for harvest" John 4:25

Have you ever seen a ripe sugar cane field? Green stalks of sugar cane reach high up into the air with silvery-white blooms swaying in warm summer breeze. And when the sun hits it just right, it literally glows. "Behold I say to you, lift up your eyes and look at the fields, for they are already right for harvest" John 4:25

Typical ox-drawn cartSugar cane is not the only crop grown by the small farmers of Eastern El Salvador. Many farm a plot of green peppers, navy beans, squash, or watermelon. Most raise their own corn to sustain them through the year.

They live in small communities of around 100 - 500 people. A few children go to school and complete a sixth grade education, but many are forced to drop out as they are needed on the farm. Lack of resources prevents the farm families from traveling to the big cities to attend worship services.

So we must go to them. With an estimated population of 400,000 people, approximately 4000 house churches will be needed to reach them! Like the glistening sugar cane, many farmers are spiritually ripe unto harvest.
