Merry Christmas!!
There’s no place like home...
After delayed flights, airport shopping and almost knocking a few people down on my way out of the last plane, I fell into the arms of a crying mama, beautiful sister, and grinning daddy at the Raleigh/Durham airport! What a happy night to begin my 12 day visit at home! In the car to greet me was a cooler of Dr. Peppers and a box of fresh Krispy Kreme donuts. I am a loved little girl!! It was an eventful drive home of almost talking myself hoarse, stopping for bridesmaid dress pick-up in Carthage and a Taco Bell stop in Pinehurst, before arriving at my little house with the driveway full of cars and posters in the garage welcoming home the Malpass girls–Mo from Texas and me from Spain. There’s no sight so exciting!

My days were filled with eating all my favorites, decorating the house for Christmas, shopping trips with mama and Melissa, and getting my share of hugs from Laurel Hill Baptist folks! I was able to speak to the 6th grade class at Carver Middle School about Spain and being a missionary and also to the youth at my home church. I enjoyed seeing their faces when I told them they had just sampled olives stuffed with anchovies! I was amazed and blessed by friends who took time out of their lives to come and visit me, like Michael Singer and Scott Bullard. Also, Jessi Woodard introduced me to a new favorite by teaching me how to ride a horse.
It was a special time for me and the folks I love.

Wedding Bells

I caught the bouquet!!! Hmmm... Although our time together was short, Ashley’s wedding provided for a mini-McKay reunion including
a showering of gifts for mommies-to-be, bride-to-be, and Spanish prizes all around! The bride was beautiful, the bridesmaids had fun, the groom was nervous, and the result was a godly start to a godly marriage. What a happy day!

Post-Journeyman Plans
I’m off to Madrid next year. The week following my return to Spain, I accepted the position of Interim Volunteer Coordinator in Madrid while our VC will be on a year long stateside assignment. The job will include meeting groups at the airport, arranging transportation and hotels, orienting groups to the country and their assignments while they’re here in Spain, among other secretarial tasks.
I’ll be home 2 months this summer to attend my journeyman debriefing conference and spend time with my family before I return for my new job.
Lottie Moon
Thank you, thank you to all of you Southern Baptists for your generous support of the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering! This special offering is what takes care of needs of all missionaries supported by the International Mission Board. One hundred percent of this offering goes to missionaries all over, including me. Thank you.
You better watch out...

You better not cry! McDonald’s has come to town!! OK, so maybe you don’t think this is news-worthy, but go to another country and crave a flat, greasy, American cheeseburger. You’d be excited too!

Christmas Celebrations

This year is definitely a record! I’ve celebrated Christmas 3 times! Christmas day was full of sharing Malpass traditions including a country ham/biscuits/grits breakfast, stuffed stockings, and a steak dinner with the Borgan kids and David. Christmas celebration #2 was on New Year’s Eve after Hope came home from college. We ate our 12 grapes with the 12 strokes of midnight before starting our party! Celebration #3 occurred the Saturday after my birthday after Joy returned home from her visit to England. I don’t mind Christmas lasting a month or two!

Joy’s mom
Several days after Christmas, Joy’s mom, Lyn Edwards, who had struggled for a year with lymphoma, went to be with Jesus. Her life was such a testimony to me through the stories of Joy and the kids and I know she was happy to know that she was passing on a heritage of faith through her family. Joy went to England in mid-December and was with her mom for several weeks and then was able to stay with her dad another week after the funeral. Please be praying for Joy’s dad, Ken Edwards, as his life continues without his wife of 53 years and for Joy who misses her mom.

Dream #3 of my European experience was fulfilled January 14! My birthday present to myself from myself was a 4 day weekend in London with my MK Grace, my college pal Mary Leaphart, and fellow Journeyman Michael Laird. The hightlight of our trip and the fulfillment of my dream was going to see Les Miserables. Feeding the birds at St. Paul’s Cathedral like in Mary Poppins, was a very close second.
We laughed and talked and laughed and walked and laughed and took pictures all over London. We also took a day trip to Oxford where Mary studied for a semester. We saw Big Ben, took a proper tea, ate fish and chips, and climbed all over the lions at Trafalgar Square. It was a fun trip, but what meant more to me than anything was the fellowship.

New Web Page
David Borgan’s special gift is computer smarts and he’s busily been working on his web page and making a link to it with a page of my own. He’s made one page with pictures from 1999, a page with birthday pictures and video, and will have a new page completed soon with Christmas and London pictures. His page also introduces the Borgan family and what’s going on with their ministry here in Caceres. The address is: www.townbeacon.com/borgan if you’d like to check it out!
Family Corner
My little brother, Michael, graduated from UNC-Charlotte in December and Melissa’s graduation from seminary is in sight–this coming May! Way to go, Michael! Keep it up, Mo! As for the rest, while Bubba has been suffering through a heat-wave in Argentina, Mama and Daddy enjoyed a week-long retreat into a Winter Wonderland that God brought to their own backyard–front yard too for that matter!

On January 20 I turned 24! And to help celebrate my two dozen years of life, I was given 2 cakes and felt obliged to do each one justice by eating as much as possible. The Borgans threw party #1 at their house and then the new missionaries in town with Worldteam brought me another party in a bag complete with cake, balloons, party hat, and gift. I’m continually amazed at how God provides those little things that don’t really matter, but make us (me) feel so special.

I think that sums up my last three months. Happy Thanksgiving! Merry Christmas! Happy NewYear! Happy Valentine’s Day! I love you, my friends! – Sarah Malpass
