Cáceres

Cáceres is one of the world's most historic cities.  Prehistoric cave dwellers below the modern city date back thirty millenia (30,000 B.C.)  The Roman military base was converted into a bustling Muslim stronghold.  The hilltop castle city was defended by Moors against Spanish Knights including the most famous Order of Knights of Santiago (which originated in Cáceres).

After the defeat of the Muslims in Spain the conquest continued in the discovery, conquest and Christianizing of the New World.  The monestary of Guadalupe (in the province of Cáceres) started missions from Florida to California, Mexico to Chile and today is the patro and pilgramage site for of all of Hispanidad (the Spanish-speaking world.)
